Puerto Rico: Young mother loses both legs due to domestic violence and wakes hoping attacker is in jail

Francheska Duarte, the woman hit (by a car) by her boyfriend, cried when she saw that both of her legs were amputated, but as if it were a miracle, her health has recovered rapidly.

When she finally began to speak, without the influence of sedatives, the first thing she asked was whether Jorge (Ramos Rodriguez), the father of her four month old baby was in jail.

Meanwhile, Primerahora sources claimed that Ramos Rodriguez suffered a tremendous beating in the institution in which he was held after his sentence was revoked on probation from a previous drug-related case.

Juan Perales, Francheska's uncle, said that the body of his niece ,19 years old, is no longer swollen and the family is confident that she will leave the hospital strengthened.

"She is eating better. Every time she opens her eyes she asks for food. At first she couldn't be  given food, but now she can, and she is eating soup and broth. She is eating little by little. She is in the process of recovery, "Perales said in an interview with Primera Hora.

"Right now she is more active, more awake. They have taken away almost every machine because her body is working for itself", he said with obvious joy.
According to Perales, his niece remembers what happened and can help the authorities to get justice for her case.
"Teh first thing she asked is if the boy was thrown in jail, because she knows, I understand, everything that happened that night. I do not think she is aware of how long she has been in the hospital, but otherwise, I believe she remembers", he said.
Duarte, whose family lovingly calls her Jessica, asked about her baby and has pasted pictures of her everywhere in the new room that she was transferred to.
Moreover, sources told Primera Hora that Rodríguez Ramos was beaten in the Bayamon Regional Jail, but the Secretary of Corrections denied it.
"Nobody says anything about who was who did it. He got really hard, "said the source, who declined to give his name because he was not authorized to speak on the subject.
The secretary confirmed that Ramos Rodriguez was taken to jail in Las Cucharas in Ponce, but said it was because of quota.
He said through his press officer that he had not received any reports that Ramos Rodríguez had received any abuse and said that he had good behavior. Later reviewed and confirmed that it had no sign of aggression.
The mother of the accused of hitting his girlfriend had been unable to visit him until Saturday, as known by the paper, but was unable to talk to her.
On December 18, Ramos Rodriguez hit Francheska with his car and pinned her to a parked bus on Main Street in Barrio Obrero in Santurce, in the midst of a discussion.
Ramos Rodriguez, aka "Bebo", was taken to prison on December 22 after it was ordered that he be arrested for violating conditions of his probation, which initially was selling drugs, and then settled for one count of possession .
That same day he was  charged with third degree aggravated assault, mutilation and violation of Article 23 of the Road Traffic Act for driving a vehicle without a license.
The man said it was an accident because, allegedly, he wanted to scare the woman.
Francheska's family reacted angrily to know the decision of the prosecution, since the woman was the victim of a pattern of domestic violence, even while pregnant.
The preliminary hearing is tomorrow as quoted in the San Juan Judicial Center. (Click here to read the article in Spanish)
